This policy describes the privacy practices for openwaterplotter.com and explains how this policy will be updated for the OpenWater chartplotter software. OpenWater is an independent project by Paul Tidwell.

The website

The website is a static site. It does not have user accounts, contact forms, advertising, or analytics. It does not ask you to provide personal information to browse its pages.

Hosting and technical information

The site is hosted using Cloudflare. When you visit, Cloudflare may process technical information needed to deliver and protect the site, such as your IP address, browser and device information, the pages requested, and the time of the request. Cloudflare may also use cookies or similar technologies for security and service operation. This site does not use cookies for advertising or analytics.

Email and external links

If you email info@openwaterplotter.com, I receive the email address and any information you choose to include, and use it to respond and maintain the conversation. Your email provider and the recipient’s email provider also process the message. Please avoid sending sensitive information unless it is needed.

The site may link to third-party services, including Reddit. Following those links takes you to services with their own privacy practices; this policy does not cover them.

OpenWater chartplotter software

The chartplotter software is still in development and has not been released. Its data practices, including how it handles location, connected instrument data, and information stored on your device, are not yet established by this policy. Before the software is released, this policy will be updated to explain what information it handles, whether anything is transmitted, and what choices you have.

Your choices and privacy requests

You can choose not to email or follow external links. You can also manage or clear cookies through your browser settings; blocking cookies may affect Cloudflare’s security or delivery features.

This policy may change as the website or software evolves. The effective date at the top indicates when it was last updated.
